F1 qualifying cancelled Valtteri Bottas makes it a two horse race for the driver's championship.
Mercedes have sealed a sixth straight constructors championship and drivers championship at the Japanese Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas only needed to pick-up 14 points on Ferrari to seal the team championship with four grands prix remaining this year and with Valtteri Bottas taking out the win and Hamilton getting the fastest lap and third place, it was enough to beat Ferrari for the constructors title.
But he also said it was bittersweet after losing Niki Lauda during the season, although letting Hamilton and Bottas battle it out for the drivers championship would honour the F1 legend.
I miss him. Asked if the win was dedicated to Lauda, Wolff was unequivocal.
Valtteri Bottas and Nika Lauda. But the Japanese Grand Prix had everything with the first lap chaos making it an exciting start.
But at the second corner, Verstappen was caught short of Leclerc who appeared to veer across and ram the Red Bull driver from the track. But Leclerc also had some damage on his front wing and bizarrely stayed out for three laps with the wing dragging on the surface and leaving carbon debris on the track.
The move was originally cleared with Verstappen blowing up deluxe. For Renault, it was a much better day than it started with Daniel Ricciardo rising from 16th to seventh, and Nico Hulkenberg going from 15th to ninth.
